Tunable Littrow Lasers (LDL)

LDL

Description

The tunable lasers can be combined with optical amplifiers or fibre amplifiers for direct wavelength amplification, or with frequency converted systems to access second harmonics and sum or difference frequency mixing.

The LDL is a Littrow configuration extended cavity diode laser with monoblock chassis. There are no coil springs to vibrate. Machined from a solid block of aluminium alloy, this laser is compact, robust and stable. Precise, repeatable vertical alignment and grating rotation are decoupled to allow tuning the wavelength by tens of nanometres through the diode gain curve without realigning. The linewidth is below 100kHz for longer wavelengths and typically 200kHz in the blue. The LDL laser is designed particularly for wavelengths from 369nm to 500nm, and semi-hermetically sealed to reduce the effects of external air pressure variations.

Extended chassis Littrow laser with internal isolator and built-in integrated mini digital controller

The LDX/LDF variant allows for internal mounting of an isolator and even integration with our mLC Mini Laser Controller (pictured). Isolator options can be found here.

Broad wavelength coverage with extended tuning range

Available from 369 - 530nm and 630 - 1300nm, supporting both short-wavelength applications and wide scan requirements. The Littrow design enables an extended mode-hop-free tuning range, making it ideal for applications requiring continuous frequency scans over large ranges. For longer wavelengths requiring maximum stability, cateye-based systems may be preferred

Optimised for blue and near-UV wavelengths

Designed for operation from 369 nm to 500 nm, where stable, tunable sources are often difficult to achieve.

Stable monolithic design

Machined from a solid aluminium block, the monoblock cavity eliminates vibration-sensitive components, ensuring robust and repeatable operation, with reduced acoustic sensitivity.

Wide, realignment-free tuning

Decoupled vertical alignment and grating rotation enable smooth tuning across tens of nanometres without the need for realignment.

Narrow linewidth for precision applications

Typical linewidths are below 100 kHz at longer wavelengths and around 200 kHz in the blue, supporting high-resolution measurements.

Reduced environmental sensitivity

Semi-hermetic sealing minimises the impact of air pressure fluctuations, improving long-term stability.

Compact, integrated control options

LDX/LDF variants support internal optical isolators and integration with the mLC Mini Laser Controller, enabling a compact, all-in-one solution with USB or TCP/IP control.
